Executive Committee
Kay Lowmaster, MSW, LCSW, Chairman
Kay Lowmaster Kay has been the Chapter Leader of the Us TOO Hillman Cancer Center Chapter in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for 13 years. She also serves as the Us TOO Regional Director for Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia and has been a faculty member for several Us TOO University programs. Kay has a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in social work. Her background is in oncology social work, and she has worked in both hospice and acute care settings. She is currently an oncology educator serving as the Program Coordinator for Community Outreach at the UPMC Cancer Centers in Pittsburgh. She lectures throughout western Pennsylvania on cancer prevention and early detection.
David P. Houchens, PhD, Vice-Chair 
David P. Houchens David has a PhD in microbiology and immunology from George Washington University, and is a senior scientist/administrator with extensive experience in pharmaceutical research and development with industry, university medical centers, contract laboratories and government funding agencies. He currently serves as a Program Manager at the Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2001 and had a radical prostatectomy.
Jean Jeffries
Jean Jeffries Jean Jeffries is an active member of the Treasure Valley Us TOO chapter in Idaho. Jean’s husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009 and is currently undergoing treatment. Her service work includes being a Board Member of the Ada County Community Guardians, the Vancouver Women’s Resources Centre Society of the University of British Columbia, and the Lower Mainland Grief Recovery Society. Jean is a founding member of the Widowed Journey which is an outreach program by the University of British Columbia for widows, widowers and their families.
Howard Kaczmarek 
Howard Kaczmarek Kaczmarek is currently active in the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Prostate Cancer Support Group, and the OHSU Prostate Cancer Program Advocacy Group. He serves on the Pacific Northwest Prostate Cancer SPORE in Seattle, Washington, and is a Consumer Reviewer for the Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program. He has participated in several OHSU clinical studies regarding patients with prostate cancer, and in various Portland area fundraisers for prostate cancer education and research.

He is a retired quality assurance / electrical engineer with extensive experience in the field of building and operating nuclear powered, electrical generating stations, and the construction of nuclear waste treatment facilities.

Born and raised in the Chicago area, Howard has spent the last 20 years in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Howard has been happily married to Karin for 46 years, has two grown daughters and one grandson, and makes frequent trips back to the Midwest to visit family and friends.
Thomas N. Kirk, President and CEO
Thomas N. Kirk Tom joined Us TOO in November 2004 and brings over 30 years of experience as a family service leader. He has worked in the area of Alzheimer’s disease for nearly 20 years, having served 13 years with the National Alzheimer’s Association staff where he worked to establish and develop chapters, developed new education programs and services for patients and families and served on the Senior Management Team. Tom also worked for over a decade in a Family Service Association in NE Wisconsin where he developed and managed services such as an outpatient Mental Health Program, a 24-hour Crisis Intervention Center and an Outreach Program for Vietnam Veterans and their families. In addition, he has worked as a direct services provider, Director and Vice President in long term care and social service settings. Tom holds a Masters Degree in Planning and Administration from the University of Wisconsin Madison’s School of Social Work.
James C. Hammack, DDS
Jim Hammack Jim is a general dentist in practice over 40 years in Oklahoma City. A graduate of Oklahoma State University, Jim received his Doctorate of Dental Science from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. Jim was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the age of 62 in 2006 and elected to have a da Vinci robotic prostatectomy in December 2006. This was followed by forty-four Tomo radiation treatments in 2008. He has been cancer free since treatment.

Jim and his wife, Beth, have been leaders in the central Oklahoma Us TOO Chapter since his diagnosis. As a cancer survivor, Jim has been an avid proactive speaker and participant in many prostate cancer screenings. They have three married children and four grandsons. He has been a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry and served as president of the Oklahoma County Dental Society.
Jerry Hardy
Jerry Hardy Jerry Hardy is a prostate cancer survivor, counselor, speaker, and advocate. He is a member of the Us TOO Livonia, Michigan Chapter, a peer reviewer for National Cancer Institute, and with wife (and retiring Board member) Jo Ann Hardy, shared their personal prostate cancer story in The Circles of Love Collection, published by Us TOO International. He has recently retired from 35 years with the United States Postal Service, serving as a National Association of Letter Carriers union steward and USPS supervisor. Jerry is a pianist and choir director, and is on the Board of Deacons at Trinity Baptist Church in Detroit.
David Lubaroff, PhD
David Lubaroff David M. Lubaroff, PhD, is a Professor in the Departments of Urology and Microbiology and in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Immunology as well as Associate Director in the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, all at the University of Iowa. His research is centered on immunologic aspects of prostate cancer, in particular immunotherapy for the disease. Currently, David is the Principal Investigator in a Phase II clinical trial of a vaccine for the treatment of recurrent prostate cancer.
Jeff Mills
Jeff Mills Jeff Mills is the Vice President of Finance of Enterprise Holdings in Atlanta. Enterprise Holdings is the parent company to Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental, and Alamo Rent-A-Car. As Vice President of Finance of Enterprise Holdings in Atlanta, Jeff oversees the fiduciary responsibilities of the airport operations as well as the 118+ home city rental locations, Truck Rental, Car Sales, Leasing, and the Regional Office Headquarters. In addition, Jeff oversees Legislative Affairs for Georgia.

Jeff’s father and former Us TOO Chairman of the Board, Fred Mills,was diagnosed with Prostate cancer in 1997. Jeff became keenly interested in understanding the disease and specifically what different treatments were available. He wanted to know what he could do to change his lifestyle to reduce his risk in the future. Jeff has been able to pass his knowledge on to several friends that have either been diagnosed or had a family member diagnosed. 

Over the past few years in Atlanta, Jeff has been very active serving the Georgia Chamber of Commerce as a member of the Board. He also has been involved in numerous charitable organizations throughout Atlanta including the United Way as a Tocqueville Society member, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk, and the Susan G. Komen, Breast Cancer Event. 

Jeff lives in Marietta, GA with his wife Nicole and their three children, Lauren – 17, Riley – 15, and Joshua 9.
James L. Rieder
James L. Rieder has 40 years` executive leadership experience in seven, diverse, for-profit, not-for-profit community and teaching hospitals, hospitals affiliated with large national systems, a vertically integrated multi-hospital system and a statewide non-profit foundation. 

He has an MBA from Cornell University, Johnson School of Management, Ithaca, New York, with a concentration in Hospital and Health Services Administration, and a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Rieder most recently served as the Executive Director of the Ohio Quality Cardiac Care Foundation in Columbus, Ohio, retiring in 2001. Mr. Rieder has strong experience in finance, marketing, human relations, strategic planning, negotiations, board relations, and State Legislative/Executive Branch lobbying and collaboration. He is an active professional and community leader, and lives with wife Mary in Powell, Ohio. They have four children and eleven grandchildren.

Jim was diagnosed 8 years ago with prostate cancer, underwent a radical prostatectomy and has been cancer free since. He has been very active with the James Cancer Hospital support group, an affiliated chapter of Us TOO International.
Dexter C. Rumsey, III
Dexter C. Rumsey, III, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in July 2007 and had a radical prostatectomy. After a recurrence in 2009, he has been managing the disease with radiation and hormone therapy. 

In addition to being an estate planner, estate tax attorney, and founding partner of law firm Rumsey & Bugg, Mr. Rumsey has served as president of two charitable organizations. His leadership experience includes membership on the board of directors for numerous professional and civic organizations. After graduating from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a degree in Political Science, he served state-side and in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of captain. While serving in Vietnam he was exposed to Agent Orange, proven to be a contributing factor in the development of prostate cancer.

In 1971 he earned his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. From 1978 to 1982 he a member and chairman of Board of Governors, Virginia State Bar Trusts and Estates Section, and received the Walker Award for Exemplary Service from the Virginia Bar Association in 2002. 

Mr. Rumsey is an avid off-shore sailor and sailed across the Atlantic in the summer of 2004. He also enjoys hunting duck and quail. He resides in Irvington, Virginia, with his wife Bonnie. They have two children and five grandchildren.
William Seidel
Bill Seidel William is a retired business executive and business owner now extensively involved in volunteer activities. Since 2008 William has been a facilitator of two Us TOO support groups in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He brings to the Us TOO Board skill sets gained as a prostate cancer patient, vice president of a Fortune 500 company, and leader in community and volunteer activities.
Rev. Harold “Hal” Teuscher
Rev. Harold "Hal" Teuscher The Rev. Harold “Hal” Teuscher is a retired clergyman of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, having served for 50 years in large and small parishes in Arizona, California, Michigan, Missouri, and Illinois. He possesses two Masters degrees from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO, and a third Masters from Western Michigan University where he also served as an instructor in interpersonal communications and public speaking. He worked for 15 years as a Corporate Communications and Labor Relations Specialist in the Human Resources department for a Fortune 500 Corporation, The Upjohn Company, now part of the giant pharmaceutical company, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Teuscher also served as the chairperson of his denomination's Wellness Committees in southern California, Arizona, southern Nevada, and central Arizona.

Hal had a successful prostate cancer surgery at Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale, AZ in 2003 and has been serving as a volunteer counselor to men who have been recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is actively spreading the news about Us TOO in Casa Grande, AZ where he resides with his wife Julia, who retired in 1992 as Corporate Materials Coordinator at The Upjohn Company, Kalamazoo, MI
Directors Emeritus
John De Boer, Co-Founder, Us TOO International
John De Boer John served his country before and throughout World War II in both European and Philippines theaters as a Major in the combat engineers. After leaving Commonwealth Edison Company in Chicago in 1955, John was self employed as the owner of a variety of businesses, including home decorating, private scavenging, dry cleaning and shirt laundry, and mobile home parks. Retired from the business world in 1976, John volunteered to serve in ministry in The Institute in Basic Youth Conflicts. He became its Executive Vice President in 1980, and retired in 1986. In May 1988, John had a radical prostatectomy and with the purpose of serving his fellow man, became one of the co-founders of Us TOO in 1990. John lives in Elmhurst, Illinois, and participates in the Us TOO Elmhurst Support Group Chapter.
Edward C. Kaps, Co-Founder, Us TOO International
Ed Kaps Ed was born, raised and educated in Illinois. He served in the United States Navy as an aviation radioman from 1943-1946. He worked for General Motors for 42 years as an industrial relations director, retiring in 1988. Ed has been involved in many organizations over the years, including President/Secretary of a bowling league, President of a Little/Pony Baseball League, Executive Director of the Illinois Manufacturers Association, Trustee of his church, and a member of the Board of Directors of a retirement home. Ed has been a prostate cancer survivor since 1978, and became one of the co-founders of Us TOO in 1990. He was a Director and Trustee of the American Foundation of Urological Disease (AFUD), and in 2008 started the Edward C. Kaps Hope Awards given to “An outstanding Leader in an Us TOO Support Group who has shown unselfish, dedicated service to prostate cancer survivors and their families." Ed currently lives in the Chicagoland area and in Arizona.
Jim Kiefert, EdD, Former Chairman of the Board
Jim Kiefert Jim was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1989 at age 50. He had surgery and radiation which did not eliminate the cancer. Jim retired in 2001 as a school district superintendent having spent 41 years in education serving as a math/science teacher, University professor and public school administrator. Kiefert was a Fulbright Scholar who studied at the American University in Cairo, Egypt and served as Executive Secretary of the Washington Educational Research Association for 19 years. 

Kiefert credits his prostate cancer diagnosis with changing his life - sparking changes in diet, exercise, stress reduction, spirituality, and focused on the appreciation of the most important things in life. Jim and his wife Maureen have eight children, 14 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Kiefert and his wife received ACS M2M facilitator training and are now facilitator trainers. They formed and facilitate support groups in The Dalles, OR and Olympia, WA. Jim says, "Living with prostate cancer makes you realize that every day is a gift, to be spent wisely."
